From disposed belt to valuable raw materials: Our recycling process
At CCS, we transform discarded conveyor belts into valuable raw materials through a specialised multi-phase process. It begins with our primary shredder, which efficiently cuts 2/3 tonne per hour of steel cord conveyor belts into 100 to 150 mm pieces. These pieces are then automatically fed into a secondary shredder, reducing them further to 30 to 50 mm. Following this, the material moves into a granulator, where it is refined into 1 to 4 mm crumb rubber.
To ensure purity, magnetic separators are strategically placed before and after the granulator. These systems efficiently remove shredded steel, directing it automatically into dedicated steel bins. The crumb rubber is then fed into a silo to make sure if production stops there is still product to be bagged in our automated bagging systems, packaging it into one-tonne bags, ready for its next life.
Innovating with continuous pyrolysis
Our unique approach to recycling sets CCS apart. In Phase 2, we divert the crumb rubber and MRP from the bagging areas into a continuous pyrolysis system. This fully automated system operates 24/7, heating the crumb rubber to approximately 500 degrees Celsius.
This process yields three key products: black char, refined into 1250 mesh carbon black; pyrolysis oil/fuel, processed into industrial fuel and syngas, which fuels our pyrolysis system and reduces emissions. syngas filtration; these filters are able to be refined into Synthetic Gypsum and sold to Australian farmers to help rebuild there soils
A vision for a sustainable future
Our ambition is to achieve maximum landfill diversion rate, while producing high quality products. Our dreams extend far beyond Perth; we aim to establish multiple facilities, that expand across Australia, tackling conveyor belt recycling all over the country.
Ultimately, we envision going global, bringing more business to Australia and opening facilities worldwide. This commitment to innovation and sustainability defines CCS, ensuring we contribute to a cleaner planet while providing exceptional service.
